Week #70 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Week 70: Merry Christmas!!

Here is a recap of the week:

Monday: We had a conference the next day so all the elders came to stay the night at our place and that was pretty cool having all ten of us. Word of advice, it's a lot harder to get sleep with that many of them haha.

Tuesday we had a conference where 3 zones met together and that was pretty fun. The focus was on baptism and Christ. After it was over we went on exchanges with a couple elders. We went to a YSA guy in Ajax and taught the intro of the Book of Mormon with him which went really well and he committed to read it and find for himself. After we went caroling with the YSA in the branch. We were in a separate car from all of them and were driving all around town to different places singing for them and blasting Christmas music in the car while we traveled. It was probably my favorite night on the mission or at least top 10.

On Wednesday we were able to meet with a couple people, exchange back and also found two new people to teach. We went by our returning member (the prodigal son) and viewed some of the videos on mormonchannel.org. My favorite was "The Hope of Gods light". If you haven't seen it, I suggest you do so. After we didn't have much time left till we had to go home but decided to go contacting and found a lady and taught the whole first lesson on the street and the spirit was felt.

Thursday, I can't remember really remember what happened so I may just skip that haha.

Friday we went to Ajax and taught a guy with a return missionary. It went pretty well. The guy was from Africa and he had a good story and it was pretty long.... haha. So I was fortunate enough that my Grandpa Ardy gave me some money so my companion and I decided to go eat somewhere nice. We choose Buffalo Wild Wings. We stood out pretty well and I took off my coat so I had a sweater with my name tag. One of the waitresses came up to us and asked us about it and then when we told her she said she had lots of questions. While we were there she kept coming up to us and asking questions and pretty much taught the whole restoration to her. While waiting tables she would quickly come and sit down with us and talk every now and then. Though there were tvs and lots of people around us, they all seemed to disappear while we were talking. Really cool.

The next day we did a lot of planning and other paper work stuff. That night before Christmas we had the elders over and had some fun celebrations and had a testimony meeting that was really intense and spiritual and we sang O Holy Night..... and it was absolutely terrible hahahahah.

The next day was Christmas and there was no YSA so everyone just went to their home wards. We went to the Oshawa ward. Later we went to the prodigal sons house and then did our skype at the Magliolis who are awesome and then went to the LaFrances for dinner and got to be included in the presents which was really nice of them.

The next Monday (yesterday) we found a new person who wants to learn more and really change his life and some other people. Thats all I got! Thanks so much to all of you who sent packages or letters!

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Week 69: Miracles by the Plenty! Have a Merry Christmas!

Week 69:

Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas.

Oh and if you didn't know...Merry Christmas! If you haven't already you need to go check Mormon.org and see the #LightTheWorld. Its super awesome and focuses on doing service for others. So this letter might possibly be pretty short for this week, but we'll see what happens cause I might end up writing a lot. Now that you're on the edge on your seat probably eagerly anticipating what you're gonna read next let's begin.

Monday- We had a fun Pday and got the whole zone together and made crepes and did a white elephant gift exchange. Later that night we had a ysa Christmas branch party and also did another white elephants so the day was pretty nice haha.

So Tuesday morning while we were getting ready I made/baked a cookie cake thing I got from home. How did I do this? I have no idea haha When I say miracles still happen I mean it.

We went and took it though to an investigator though and hopefully it was good. We then went and visited a guy that has been less active for a while and we were talking with him and I think we asked him to share his favorite scripture but he did and it was in 2 Nephi 33 and as he shared it you could feel the atmosphere change in the room and he started crying as he was reading. It was really humbling to see this guy who had been hurting for a while finally start to heal. Its like the gospel is true or something?!? Sike! It is true! We also ended up teaching our new converts' mom who speaks Spanish and just a little English so we taught very simply and with some translating from him taught her the plan of salvation and at the end she said "I like the Plan of Salvation" and I was just like "me too." Later on our convert told us that his mom had told him that she was questioning that very day just life in general and what happens after and was kinda worried but that after she met with us she felt good and at peace. So cool.( So it turns out that was Tuesday and Wednesday haha)

Thursday we went to a district meeting out in Bowmanville and we learned how to effectively study.

Friday we also had another district meeting in Oshawa.

On Saturday we had a temple trip with the YSA ward planned but it got canceled so we went and shoveled peoples driveways and it was so cool cause people were so humbled and loving when we did. We then went and volunteered at a soup kitchen and were serving so that was really awesome and it made me really realize the importance of manners and gratitude cause I loved the people who displayed those things. We also got to teach an investigator who at first seemed like he might not want to accept the book of Mormon before he even read it but by the end changed his mind and he is gonna read it and we will see him on Tuesday!

Miracles by the Plenty!

Have a Merry Christmas!

Week #68

Week 68: Man oh man! We had another blessed week here in the Zarahemshwa!

On Monday we had a zone activity and went bowling which was super fun! I guess you'll be able to tell by the photos haha. We then went by an investigator and had a solid lesson. We then had a good FHE with the YSA.

Tuesday we went and visited a another investigator and brought a member with us and we went through the introduction of the Book of Mormon. It went very well and the Spirit was there and he understood the importance of keeping commitments. We also had a return missionary take us out for lunch and he told us about his mission. He served in only four areas which is very few. The first three he served each for 7 months which is a really long time. We also met with our new convert and he brought his non-member mom to do family history. We started him off at first and then left and they continued to do it and later he told us they got so much done and that his mom was so pumped.

On Wednesday we went and helped clean out a returning members house. It wasn't pretty but it was more after we left ha-ha. We also helped set up a light up nativity at the church.
That night we drove to Brampton to stay the night at a house where some missionaries live. There was 20 of us and they had a challenge to eat Scotch Bonnet peppers which are very hot. The trick is to eat em fast. They burnt so bad and so everyone was running around drinking milk and eating ice cream and and it was going all over the place ha-ha. I tried one and my mouth was burning so bad it hurt ha-ha. But while everyone was running around I was pretty calm for the most part cause I ate it super fast but later you'll learn that maybe it wasn't the best idea.

Wednesday Morning: About 6:00 am: I wake up and my stomach is just wrecked. I got to the washroom and it was terrible. It felt like a boxer was punching me from the inside of my stomach. So the peppers were not as hot going in but I definitely paid for that that morning. Haha maybe too much detail but I feel I need to give you all a warning haha.

That next day we had a super long meeting in which we talked about a couple things that would help the mission grow and see more convert baptisms.

The next day was pretty hazy so I might just skip it haha.

Saturday we had a really good meeting in which the Spirit was super strong.

Sunday we had transfer calls and I am staying here for another with Elder Jackson. I am super pumped!

Love you all. Make good choices! Choose the right!

Week 67--miracles continue

Oh man. Whatta week. We saw soo many miracles here in the dirty schwa (the locals name for it).

Monday- Our zone went to a trampoline park and it was so fun and we had a great time.

Tuesday- Went on exchanges out to Pickering with a greenie named Elder Martin Such a solid nice man from Arizona. We went by a former who tried bashing us saying he wouldn't read the Book of Mormon so we asked him a couple inspired questions and he just had no idea what to say and then we bore testimony and I almost cried while doing so and he felt it too which was pretty cool. We then contacted this guy who spoke almost no English and spoke Spanish so I pulled out some Spanish from good ol high school and had a basic conversation with him and gave a book of Mormon. Really cool and that was a little gift of tongues miracle.

Wednesday- Had a cool district meeting where we learned about listening and my companion and I put it together, That just like how we love our friends and family so much its because we know them and have taken that chance to know them and know their talents, their struggles and such that gives us that chance to grow our love and because God knows us perfectly: Our struggles, weaknesses, likes and dislikes, He has that ability to Love us perfectly as does the Savior and our job is to learn about both of them so we can develop that same love for Them.

Thursday- We met with our investigator who had the new years goal to find his spirituality. We brought our new convert who testified of his conversion, how he was struggling and was at a tough time in his life till he found the gospel and met with the missionaries. The Spirit was soo strong and the guy was so humble (humility is key). We taught the first lesson, the restoration and it was one of the top lessons I've been in. Amazing. Also we went by another investigator and we ended up teaching his friend as well.

Friday- We had another cool district meeting on companionship unity. After we got sushi so that was pretty pleasing. My stomach loved me for that. We then went on exchanges with some elders from Brampton. I got to stay here in Oshawa with the senior comp who is the assistant to the President. It so cool learning from him and just seeing how humble he was.

Saturday- While on Exchanges we taught the New year's resolution guy again and it was probably the most amazing lesson I've ever been in. We asked him last time to try praying and so we followed up and he said he has just been feeling so amazing since and can't describe it. He said it felt as though a haze had been lifted and he could see so much more clearly. He was feeling the Spirit and he had never felt anything really like it before. He had been searching for most of that year and just felt amazing. We taught the plan of salvation and it just went so well and he understood that trials were necessary and that he wanted to feel this feeling more and we told him about the gift of the Holy Ghost and how he can always have that feeling and committed him to be baptized for January 14 and he agreed. He was just so prepared and humble it was amazing. Probably the best lesson I've ever participated in. We also had a recently return missionary with us teaching. The Spirit was sooo strong. When he said the closing prayer, he said he was grateful for meeting us and for how much each one of us had grown just from the beginning of the meeting to the end. Amazing.

Sunday- We had fast and testimony meeting and so many people got up to bear their testimony of missionary work. So great. Thanks so much for taking a little time out of your life to see a little of mine.
Don't forget to check out Mormon.org and see #lighttheworld Elder Jackson and I were on the website under the social media stuff!

Have a stellar week!

Week #66--Sooo many miracles

Week 66:
Ok. Wow. This was a crazy week. Sooo many miracles, I don't even know if I'll remember them all!

Monday- Of course we had our usual prep day and did the normal things like emailing and sports. We went and dropped by a couple investigators and taught them the importance of keeping commitments. So repentance is changing/growing and thats the whole reason why we're here on earth. And commitments are a way of repenting. So when we invite people to keep commitments we invite them to repent and in turn help them to achieve the basic purpose of our life here on earth. We don't invite people to read or pray or come to church just for fun as missionaries or to see if they'll do it or even to just get them baptized (although that is a part of it) We do it to help people change and to become more like God. We then went to FHE and had a great lesson on how the savior can help us bear our burdens.
Tuesday- We had service planned but it fell through so we went contacting and found a couple new people to teach. One guy we found said that it was his New Years resolution to develop his spirituality so he wanted to meet up and find out how. That was pretty cool and nice to see that the service wasn't supposed to work out for a reason. So we saw our inestigator from the day before and that went well. Then later we met with a guy who races cars and brought a member and taught him and it went so well and the member was a recently returned missionary so we taught in a trio and the guy was so willing to read and pray and ask God if what we shared was true. So solid.
Wednesday- Went to a place called Bowmanville and had district meeting. After that we met with an investigator out there with a member and taught him with a member. Then later we went back to Oshawa and taught another investigator. It was going well and then we got to talking about prophets and he started taking over and couldn't grasp the concept of them and it just went crazy from there. So instead of just saying what we knew. We listened and asked some inspired questions to which humbled him and the Spirit took over as we taught the rest of the lesson and by the end was so different and loved us and how we were missionaries and were amazed that people do this and just was like a friend really. So cool to see how the Spirit can change hearts. We then met and did some family history at the church with one of our new converts which was pretty good and then played some basketball with a group of guys of which a couple were nonmembers and all the running killed me haha. Made me realize how much I'm out of shape.
Thursday actually did some service. We then picked up a member and met at a Tim Hortons with the guy we had found a few days earlier with the News Year Resolution. It was funny cause at the table behind us there were like six ministers from another church. The lesson was soooo cool though. We talked about the pre earth life and our purpose here. The guy was just soaking everything up and just had a glow in his eyes and was so excited to read and come to church. So cool. We then went to the returning members house who came to church for the first time in 12 years and he was doing soo good. It was awesome and the same member who came to the lesson with the investigator before came to this one and had actually met the returning member like 10 years earlier and after the lesson and said he was so different and was amazed. When we were about to drop him off and had said for thanks for coming he said "I'm thankful for today" it was super cool.
On Friday we found a couple more people to teach.
On Saturday we had some things not work out but ended up meeting with one of our new converts and he taught us the restoration and then after we just talked and it was super Spiritual and he opened up a lot.
On Sunday we had 3 nonmembers come to church. One was this black guy who we were supposed to meet the day before. He really enjoyed it and and at the end went up to our branch President and thanked him for his talk. It was cool too cause he played Football and was a defensive back and thats exactly what I was so I also enjoyed talking with him about that. We also went to a members house for dinner and after the meal we presented the question "Why do you believe in God?" It was amazing cause almost everyone participated (and there was quite a bit of people) and the first one to answer the question was the son who was less active. Super amazing to see God bless us with a sick week.

Love you all! Love Elder Toly

Week #65 many miracles

Week 65:

Woah. This was a crazy good week! We saw many miracles and cool things! Heres a recap though...

Monday- We had our usual pday activities which was fun and then after went to a awesome family's called the Magliolis. On the way there though all the traffic lights went off and the power just completely was gone in most of Oshawa. so we had dinner in the dark with like 3 candles which was nice. Not ideal, but nice. For the message we shared a message of Matthew 5 which talks about being a light for others. Just as the candles in that room were the main focus the illuminated everything else making things more clear and easier to perceive. We can show that light to others in our own lives and through the gospel they can see the bigger picture. Without those candles we would have had an extremely difficult time eating our food. It reminds me of a quote said by C.S Lewis which says " I believe in God like I believe in the sun. Not because I can see it, but because by it I can see everything else."

Tuesday, we met with our returning member who came to church for the first time in 12 years last Sunday. He is on fire spiritually and had read the book of Mormon again in one week. He reminds me of the prodigal son cause he told us he had told his dad who lives in another city that he had gone to church that Sunday and he said it made his dads week (probably more than just his week) which is because the Gospel is really the best and at the end of life the only way to have joy and happiness so that's why parents do everything they can to help their kids grow in it. Because they just want their kids to be the most happy. Anyways though we talked about keeping the Sabbath day holy and asked what he could do to keep it more holier. He pointed towards his TV, video game and internet and said he would not turn them on at all if it was Sunday. Our member with us was amazed and it was a miracle especially since we didn't commit him to do that. He did it himself. When we use the Atonement, we will know the right thing to do. We were also able to see our investigator and started teaching his 2 friends a couple times. They're all from Jamaica and one of the times we taught it was night and we could hardly see them. Haha.

Wednesday- I went to Peterborough for exchanges and that was good.

Thursday went and did some service.

Friday we went to district meeting and is was good. Talked about commitments are how we repent and show God that we want change and follow him. That's why we invite people to do thing like read, pray and come to church to help them grow and repent. We then had crepes after which were good. So after we had planned to go to Bowmanville and do some work around there because we had more people to see there but Elder Jackson had the impression so go to Ajax but we didn't cause it didn't make sense. At the district meeting though we got a teaching record of a former investigator (someone who once met with the missionaries but stopped) and she lived in Ajax so we went and met with her aunt who was a member and got more info and also she told us about her less active son and gave us his number so we called and invited him to basketball at the church and he said that would be something he would be interested in. We told her and she was so excited it was awesome. We also stopped by a member who hasn't came to church in a year cause she got a job that is on Sundays but we just talked and asked her how she was doing spiritually. Later that night she texted us saying the missionaries hadn't stopped by in a long time and thanked us for our visit. Pretty cool miracles.

Saturday we had Stake Conference in which our mission President came to. The adult evening session was focused on the Restoration of the Gospel. It was amazingly good.

Sunday morning I was reading my Patriartichal Blessing which talked about petitioning God when I needed help so I prayed we would have someone we could find to teach that would be committed. Within 2 hours we received a media referral. So crazy. We also had dinner at one of our favorite family's the Lefrances for dinner.

Have a great week! -Elder Toly

Week #64 To Oshawa

Week 64: Alrighty crazy week with the transfer, but I'll try my best.

On Monday we had a great P-day as we went up to Barrie and played sports. We had had a challenge and our team had won and so we got to throw some pies in the losing teams faces which was super fun. We then returned to Newmarket where we had a lesson with an investigator and her main question was how she could raise her kids better and we were pumped because the gospels like the best way.

On Tuesday we had transfers so we went to Brampton and I got my new companion Elder Jackson whose 6 foot five inches and came out with me so it was awesome. We then went back and found 2 new investigators which was sweet.

The next morning on Wednesday we went and met with the branch president who is sweet. From there we went to a district meeting about revelation through prayer and really if we want answers we have to be willing to work for them and show God we truly need his help. After that we went and did some service for some members by taking out the brick flooring in their basement. We then went to a families place who had two little kids who love the missionaries. It was sweet. Then went by one of our new converts from Venezuela who got baptized 5 weeks ago. He's awesome.

Next day we met with some less active YSA (young single adults) one of which had not gone to a sacrament service in 12 years. We taught the plan of salvation and kept tying it into church and at the end when talking about the Celestial kingdom we asked what might be keeping him from going there and he said church and we told him we could get him ride there and back and he said he would come.

Friday we went to another district meeting which focused on planning and was really good. We practiced teaching 2 times. One after we had planned the lesson and the other with no planning and you could see the difference. It was cool. We also met with a couple new converts. One who got baptized a month and a bit ago. She's pretty funny and sassy and then we met with another new convert as well. We then went and drove to Peterborough and stayed with the elders there for the night cause there was a baptism there the next day.

Saturday- we went to the baptism and also met with an investigator to which we taught the restoration and invited him to read the book of Mormon.

The next morning we went by and he had read it but only a couple of pages but that was sweet how he did read. We went to church and it was interesting, just a bunch of young people . Not really used to that and especially on a mission where you are dealing with older people a lot of the time. The guy I was talking earlier came to his first sacrament service in 12 years and he loved it and felt the spirit so strong and at the end he said he felt like crying. It was so cool and made me almost feel like crying . After church we met with the Stake Presidency and discussed missionary work in the stake and how it was going. It was cool to see some experienced leaders in action. We then went and had dinner later at a cool member families place. That's the week though.

Love you all! -Elder Toly

Week # 63

Week 63:

Man the weeks are literally just flying by! Dang! This was a pretty good week.

On Monday we went for a district lunch at this Mexican place and then played sports here at the chapel.

Tuesday was crazy. Almost nothing went according to plan and we were pretty busy. We got a call from a sister in the Spanish branch who had a friend that needed help moving so we went and helped. We also taught a lady who was taking a break from her other church and also a media referral. We also had a dinner appointment that was rescheduled 3 times in the same day so that was pretty interesting haha. One of our returning members was doing great when we saw him as well so it was a great day.

For Wednesday to quote my journal "Tracted and contacted our hearts out" haha We were able to teach an investigator but it didn't go so great as they've decided to not to meet with us. We taught a man from the catholic church. At first he wasn't interested and said he was catholic. We then asked what the catholic church believes about where we came from before this life (it was a trick question cause we know they don't believe in a pre earth life) and he thought about it and couldn't think of anything so he went and got his coat and came outside where we taught the plan of salvation.

Thursday I went to Orangeville for exchanges where my companion scared someone by saying hello as he was biking behind him and they spilt their coffee (not the worst thing in the world to spill though eh?aha)

Friday we had zone council which was super good. After Elder Pollard and I went to this place called The Works Burger and got these burgers that are filled with peanut butter and chocolate and have bacon and peanut butter chunks on top haha its name should be diabetes. The peanut butter part of it was good but I did not enjoy the chocolate part and the deep fried onions on top. We also taught an investigator and went by a members who calls his little girl chlochlochabumbum (trying saying it fast) we found it hilarious haha.

On Saturday we had a few miracles. We found two new investigators who lived next door to each other and while walking down the street we stopped to talk to a guy at the mail box and said we were missionaries and he said that he served a mission and I asked him for what church and he told us for ours. It turns out he was a member of our church that had gone on a mission but after getting back and getting married had gone less active coming out sporadically and in the last 2 years not at all. We asked him if he was still reading the book of Mormon and he said no. We then asked him if he was still praying and he said he prayed for the first time in two years...last night. We asked him what he prayed about and he said forgiveness and guidance. Daaaanng! We then met the next day and its amazing cause he was living somewhere other than where the records had said so it was thought that the info was lost. We were literally an answer to this guys prayer. It was crazy and there's no way it was a coincident cause of different factors. It felt good to know that the Lord trusted us to make us the answer to this man's prayers. So Crazy!

The next day was church and transfer calls and I am now going to Oshawa and am serving in a YSA branch so that will be exciting. I'm going to miss the people here in Newmarket though and appreciate all they have done for me.

Have a great week! -Elder Toly

Week #62

Week 62: This was a good week.

Monday we had a surprise dinner with Bishop Carleton who is awesome. The guys a legend and so is the delicious stew he made for us.

Tuesday we didn't have a lot planned so we went with intention of knocking a ton of doors with the motivation we were doing it for the Lord. Miracle happened though and the door opened and we were let into the home of a young theology student studying at York university. It went really great and we taught the whole first lesson and he had asked some solid questions so we left him with a plan of salvation pamphlet and he already had a book of Mormon which we committed him to read and pray about. we will be seeing him this upcoming week again which is awesome! We also met with a returning member who is awesome. She is ridiculously funny and had us almost peeing our pants we were dying haha. Wednesday we had district meeting which went well. We then went out to this place called works burgers. They have over like 50 kinds of burgers and there are some crazy options like reese's pieces filled patties (I'm getting that one next time I go) and I got this burger with different kinds of bacon mixed in it and with the toppings. Supper not good for you but good for you if you know what I mean. We also met with someone we had been working with for few weeks. Last week we gave him a blessing and since then his health has improved and he is reading and praying and came to church for the second time in a row.

Thursday we found a new investigator and taught one of our old one and showed this video called "the hope of Gods light" go check it out on mormonchannel.org its stellar. We also did some service in which Elder pollard didn't have to clean out kitty litter but we did have to rake leaves in the snow which was new.

Friday was a decent day and we met with a person or 2.

Saturday was great. We had a new person show up to our English class from the Czech republic. We also went to Keswick and met a couple returning members there. We then went to meet one of our investigators at a public place and our member who wasn't apparently going to make it maybe showed up and it went pretty decent. He had read the book of Mormon and the restoration pamphlet and done the questions at the back.

Sunday was good and we got to hear a great talk on family councils. We also did this service thing our ward does which is bring leftover bread from a bakery to our church where non-members, neighbors and members can come get some stuff and this week there were a ton of pastries. That's pretty much the week though. We also had a dinner Sunday night where I was given some life changing advice. Don't get the gravy at KFC. haha

Love you all!

Week #61

Well, here we are again. Its Monday. I'm writing a blog and you are reading it right now.

On Monday we went to a Spanish family's place for dinner where they fed us Papousas (I don't know how to spell it and if you speak Spanish please ignore it haha) There these circular dough made things with meat and cheese on the inside. I've had them before but hadn't had any since Hamilton cause in my last area it was a bunch of white people. So anyways heres where the story changes. We are now back around our place and have a little more time left and decided to contact people around our place. The first is a lady (Nacho Libre voice "And that is a crazy lady") She is interested in why the world is going downhill and I give her an answer and she's like "you're good". We then talk with her a little bit and see if she is interested. She's not but would like to read the Book of Mormon so we give her one. She won't take one our cards with a number on it though because it has one of those things on the back you can scan with a phone and she says its cause the government can track her on it and other stuff as well. So she walks the way which is the way that our place is. We keep going the opposite direction and start heading back the way she went. We then run into this guy and start talking, while talking he randomly touches my arm and I'm like "are you ok man?" He says yes and we keep talking and he then randomly touches Elder Pollards shoe. And we are just confused haha. He then tells us he is homeless and hungry and asks if we have any food so we start walking to an convenience store and elder Pollard buys him a couple bags of chips and some water and while Elder Pollard is paying this guy finds a receipt on the floor of the store and is throwing it up repeatedly and is smiling and turning in circles like a crazy person. The lady we had talked to earlier is now in the store as well. So we give the guy his chips and here is where the story is a little hazy. We keep talking to the lady and the guy at different times and the guy leaves so we keep talking to the lady who is asking us questions. The guy then runs back to us and touches the ladys shoe and then runs away giggling. She is then telling him to come back cause she'll hit him with her stick. She then asks us what we think is wrong with him and I say "I think he's on the devils lettuce" she then replies agreeing with me using some choice language (She had a little bit of a potty mouth) and then says "you know what?! I think he's a Satanist" Man the glorious life of being missionary where you're not safe until the door actually closes (and locks) behind you to your apartment.

Tuesday was happy and sad. One of our investigators decided he no longer was going to continue learning because he wasn't willing to fit his will with the Lords. Too bad but at the same time we found a new person who has three kids and doesn't really believe in God but was willing to listen and accepted a book of Mormon to which he read a little bit.

On Wednesday we went to Keswick and met with one of our returning members. The old lady I have talked about before. We were planning on sharing the restoration and it turns out she had one of those books/pamphlets and was reading it just last night. We then committed her to come to church cause I was going to be speaking. After we went to an awesome families house called the Carltons. They made curry soup which was sooo good. Here in Ontario Curry is definitely more of a thing than out west. We then met with one of our investigators and it was cool cause he had read through the plan of salvation book and answered the questions in the back on his own and read the chapters we left with him but is still hesitant of church cause he works on Sundays. We also were meeting with someone at the church later that day while youth activities were going on and got into a game of 2 on 2 with a couple of young men. All I'm going say is the gym floor is now clean cause we used them to wipe it. 12-7. Who says you get out of shape on your mission?

On Thursday we went to Barrie for skills and interviews where everyone in the zone gets to met with the President. The meeting was pretty good. Then had dinner at the Genoas home and that was great.

Friday we met with a returning member struggling in his faith and shared a message and gave a priesthood blessing.

On Saturday we met with a couple people. One was a family from our ward who have such a large lot and home. it takes a minute to get to their home from the coded gate haha. Sunday I got to give a talk on missionary service which I was only given notice of less than a week before and I got to talk about mission work. I ended my talk by telling the congregation about my friend Brock Ramias who passed last year at this time. I talked about how we need to share with everyone so that we can leave this life and enter the next our friends will be thanking us for telling them about Jesus Christ and the gospel. One thing I remember about Brock is that while waiting before a football game in the lecture theater at LCI he went to a whiteboard and wrote "Only the strong Survive" and his older brother Brett pointed it out. I remember that making an impact on me that day and its stuck with me since. May we all be strong as we make it through the daily problems that life faces us with. It's possible and you can do it. Wherever you are and whatever situation. You can do it. If you turn to Christ things will get better. Only the strong(those who rely on Christ) survive.

Have a great week!

Week #60

Hey everyone!

Here is week 60 in a nutshell!

On Tuesday we finished emailing and went to a members house for dinner and she shared her conversion. You might not know it but sooo many people here in Ontario are converts. She had been searching her whole life and had started meeting members from the jehovahs witness' and one day she was meeting with them when two Mormon missionaries' came and knocked at her door while the jw's were there but she knew she had to talk to these two young men so she told them to come later and they did and then she went to church and as soon as she entered she knew it was the right church. Pretty cool. Her daughter was there and actually had two of her friends so they stayed and listened to the spiritual thought. Though I have been gone for over a year from everything I can say grade 10s are still like grade 10s. We then went and visited a less active 76 year old lady who threatened to throw me over her railing but it was ok and she said I had a gorgeous smile but then said I looked like a puppy. So I'm not really sure where we stand right now. haha.

The next day we had district meeting and then went to the upper floor of a superstore to teach an investigator. We talked about the Book of Mormon and how he had to read it and ask God if it was true to know for himself. That's what I like about this church is we don't try to convince people and make it super appealing to make them join but we reveal truth through light and invite people to ask God and find out for themselves. We literally share the message and it's up to you to find out if it's true. We also went and did service for a non member and later went and visited another investigator.

Thursday we went and helped out a member with moving some stuff. Elder Pollard got the short end of the stick and ended up shoveling some cat feces out of a litter box. "And I enjoyed every minute of it" he says.

Friday we were just running around everywhere so I'm not even going to highlight on that but just remembered something I gotta tell all of you. So Our meals were not going so great until this week and we had almost a meal everyday so we tried to make it better. We started taking fun pictures at some of our dinner appointments and posted them right by the dinner calendar and this week we got dinners every single day so now we are going to get fat. Be careful what you wish for!!

Saturday we met with a couple investigators. One which we might stop meeting with cause he is thinking it might not be for him cause his parents aren't for it.

On Sunday we had church and had a return missionary speak who just came from the BC mission which my buddy Elder McNabb serves in. We were able to find a new investigator and we got to take our 86 year old out to a dinner appointment with us who kept teasing me about my driving haha.

That's the week in a nutshell though. Thanks for cracking into it!

Week #59

Alright, Alright. Heres the deets of this week in the life of Elder Toly.

This was a pretty good week

Monday we had our usual Pday.

Tuesday we met with a couple less active members which went well enough.

On Wednesday we met with one of our investigators who is a friend of the bishops and isn't interested in joining, but agreed to letting us come and "practice" our teaching on him which we hope will soften his heart. We also met with a ysa member in the library for a lesson and talked about how we can share the gospel online. I almost left a book of Mormon in one of the Library shelves, but took it out when I realized what section I had placed it in.

On Thursday we had a zone meeting which went pretty good and it talked about charity which is something Elder Pollard and myself want to work on. We then met with one of our investigators who we set a date for baptism with. He's still unsure but took a step and we agreed on one. We taught him the word of wisdom which is for those of you who don't know the lesson we teach people which outlines the things God has told us not to take such as coffee, tobacco, tea, alcohol, addictive substances and illegal drugs. Huge testimony on this as I've been on the mission and really do know we're not supposed to take these things. Our investigator knew it too but just wasn't sure if he was ready to take that step so we invited him to study it out and then to pray and ask God if it's true. We got a call later that day and some other missionaries saying one of their investigators was in the hospital and they asked us to go visit her and we did and fun thing that happened is we found one of our investigaotrs whom we had lost contact with for a while (the same one whose house we ran out of cause his parents don't like Mormons) and it turns out he had been there for almost 4 weeks. Nuts!

On Friday we went to Keswick which is North of Newmarket and has a ton of members. We went by a couple less actives. One is an old Hungarian lady whose seems super young because of her lingo. We found out that she has a little bit of a racist streak in her, but I guess she grew up in a different time.

On Saturday we finally got to meet this guy who had called our church and it turns out he really likes how our church is active with our missionaries going out and had seen the missionaries' in Windsor. We taught the whole first lesson in a grocery store and he was pretty down to learn more.

Sunday was good. We went to an investigators house for dinner. His kids are both members. One is on a mission is Germany and the other is going to school in Utah. Doesn't get more Mormon than that haha. He just needs to get baptized.

Monday we still had a regular day but we got fed lunch by some members the Chius and got to play with their swords.

We also got to meet a couple less actives. We then got to have dinner with a member in a famous all you can eat place here in Ontario called the Madarin. We ate sooo much and Elder Pollard who has a black hole as a stomach just amazed me.

We also went contacting around a lake and took a survey asking people what they were grateful for which was pretty fun. What are you all grateful for? ( I mean other than having the opportunity to read this blog letter right? ;))

Week #58

Week 58:

Well What an eventful week it has been. Pretty nuts but just wait till I tell you how. So last Monday after emailing my companion and I went and played sports with the Brampton zone. Then Elder Douglas got picked up to go to the airport and I hung out with some other elders. The cool thing is though that today I was emailing Elder Anderson (Taylor) and who happens to be in that same mission and he saw him! No coincidences in this world.

On Tuesday I got got my new companion Elder Pollard who is actually from Medicine Hat, Alberta so I was pretty pumped about that and hes actually a convert himself of about 2 1/2 years so he is super solid and has only been out 3 months. Hes actually hilarious and I am constantly dying. Hes been teaching me how to solve a rubics cube so we'll see how that'll go. That same day we went to the bishops house and they had a friend over who now we'll be seeing tomorrow.

Wednesday we went to a place called Keswick and were able to meet with a less active lady who over the years had forgotten some basic thing which was too bad.

Thursday night we drove to a place called Orangeville to stay the night with almost all the elders in the zone which was pretty fun. We went cause the next morning we were able to attend the temple. Later we met with a person who had come to church with one of our members and was curious to learn more. English isn't his first language but it went well and the spirit was there. We went to dinner later that night with the members who brought him to church and it was great. Their names are the Kuettels. Both great missionaries who have served two couples missions and are in their 80s and are a huge impact in building the church here in Newmarket.

On Saturday we got to watch the conferences as well as Sunday and 1 of our investigators came to the priesthood session and 2 others watched online. I don't have my notes but I enjoyed Elder Yamashita and sister Reeves and others but I don't really remember haha Will have to read the November Ensign and also you can watch them on Lds.org if you're curious. Super worth it even if you're not a member. But yeah that was pretty much our week.

Will keep you updated, till then, God Speed!

Week #57

Week 57: ( sorry no pictures!)

Alright I got some juicy news for all of you!

This week we got a call and Elder Douglas finally got his visa to go to England! Pretty exciting cause one of my friends Elder Anderson is serving in the same mission so they'll get to meet each other.

I then got a call on Sunday and I am getting new companion Elder Pollard who has been out for about 3 months so pretty new still. So I don't have a ton to write about this week but here is a brief overview:

Monday: Went and played some pool at the Marks who also took some nice photos of us.

Tuesday: Met with a member and went on exchanges with an Elder Tolley who've I've gone on exchange with before. Got to do some service for a sister in our ward who loaded us up with some food to eat which was solid. Also met with one of our investigators who is doing alright but will be outta town for a week so we won't see him till then.

Wednesday: We had our last district meeting which went well and had lunch and went and did some tracting in which we found a guy who said he would be interested and he was black so that was a bonus. We also had dinner at a members house the Revills who had a couple bearded dragons which we had placed on us while we shared the spiritual thought and I was able to relate repenting/being born again to when they shed their skins for the 11 year old kid to understand.

Thursday: Met with one of our investigators and wife who has two kids that are members. One who goes to school in Utah and the other who is on a mission in Germany and he has been investigating for three years and comes to church and when he goes to Sudbury he goes to our church there too. He just needs to join ha ha. We also met with an less active and then had dinner with the Irvines who are pretty sweet.

Friday: Some members took us out for lunch at a really nice/pricey place. They're the Orlovs and are from Russia and are converts of about 3 years and are solid. We also met with our same investigator who we had seen earlier this week. Later we went and say one of our returning members.

Saturday: Just spent a lot of time finding. =)

Sunday: We went to church and had a few non members ( not investigators but will soon because we are meeting them on Friday) who were invited by bro Kuettel Sr. Who is solid and also had the guy whose kids are members and his wife come. Then we had dinner at bro Baileys (he feeds us steak so he's a champ) and then went to Brampton so Elder Douglas could be interviewed by President. Then we got to stay the night with the Brampton elders which include my old companion Elder Taylor which was sweet and the aps as well one whose dad is from Raymond so of course is last name is Holt. That's the week though.

Love ya.-Elder Toly

Week #56

"Week 56 Report:

'We have continued to press on onward. Although our food supply has been low we have continued to make it last. Hopefully we can make it through the next days. the weather has been getting cooler and the sun has been going down so we are having fewer interactions with the inhabitants here. They continue to miss out on what we have to share with them and we are facing opposition from a few. I hope we can make it."

Alright I'm just kidding, but for real last pday elder Douglas and I didn't buy any groceries so we were getting scarce on food but we pushed through haha. The weather here is still warm, but you can definitely feel it start to get cooler and especially in a couple of our morning runs where is feels great. A few of the trees here are changing color, but based off last year if we wait a few more weeks it's going to be super pretty. But since we're not here to talk about the weather lets get down to business.

On Monday we went to one of our members houses and played pool with a couple of other elders in our district. We played teams and I just gotta say we didn't lose. After we went to an appointment with an investigator who has some super interesting ideas about things and last time talked a lot, but this time we talked about the plan of Salvation and he totally was different and was way more intent on listening. We committed him to pray to know if God was there.

The next day we drove to Toronto because Elder Douglas needed to do some visa stuff. It was pretty nice and there was a ton of people. The really bad thing though about big cities that I hate though is rush hour. Which we had to drive through after we were done.

We then met with a part member family in which we are teaching the kids who are 8 and 10. It went well and we taught really simply and they seemed to understand everything.

On Wednesday we went up north to do service with a sister and then later had dinner with another part member family. The grandma of the family is hilarious. When she drinks juice she will keep it in her mouth for like 20 minutes and just smiles at everyone while we're talking haha.

The next day we had zone council in which I gave an instruction about waking up and doing studies and talked about how our morning schedules affect our studies which affect having the spirit with us to teach people better. Talked about how exercise is key and how waking up and praying and studying early in the morning to receive revelation is doctrine. So many accounts from the bible talk of a prophest waking early and even Christ himself and how the first vision occurred on a Spring morning.

On Friday we had coordination meeting and during so we got a call from one of our investigators who was saying how everything makes sense, but due to circumstances can't meet up right now.

We then had a ward corn roast which was pretty fun and it was nice to throw around a football which is fun but not as fun as when we would make football trips down to Bonners Ferry in Idaho which my brother got to do and they won (we never lost to them ;)) after the ward party we went to go drop by a family and they were not home and we are waiting at the door and I turn around to see a man across the street filming us. We walk towards him to say hi and he yells "NO INGLES" and is obviously angry so we walk away and hes yelling profanity at us and all that jazz. So people just need to dump their garbage sometimes and I guess we were the lucky ones haha.

Next day we went to church and then went to an older brothers in the ward who fed us lunch whos pretty awesome and very witty. Rather than say you're welcome. He says you're welscum. What that means, I have no idea haha. Anyways thats the week for ya.

Take it easy and remember that there are miracles. If you really want to hear about something crazy my friend Matt Stewart had something that truly was a miracle happen to him. Go check out his stuff and have yourself a killer week!
