Week #44

Hey hey, everybody! This was week 44 in the mission! It was a bittersweet week but I'll give you all a little rundown...

On Monday we went down to Oshawa to play sports with a bunch of other missionaries which was a nice change from being pretty isolated here in Lindsay ha-ha. On Wednesday we had a zone Conference which was in Bellville which said on the GPS that it would take 2 1/2 hours to get there ( I whittled it down to 2 ha-ha) But it was all good. It was Presidents last one with us and it did not disappoint. He gave lots of advice.

Here's some of the quotes he said....

"your journal is your scripture"

"Always keep calluses on you knees"

"We're imperfect people doing a perfect work"

"You may never know why you came here. It doesn't matter."

"The atonement is fine sanding"

"As you progress forward doing his will, the real desires of your heart will be revealed"

"I'm pretty jazzed about that actually".

It was a great meeting with lots of emphasis on D&C 4. And then at the end we just talked about Helaman 5:12 and how Christ is our foundation and how we can stay on that foundation. It was great.

After that we went on exchanges with some other elders. I went to Oshawa with an Elder Moffat. It was pretty fun and we got to see lake Ontario. After getting back to my own area we had a lesson with an investigator in which we talked about the plan of Salvation and a member came. It went great and the spirit was felt. Both had their mothers passed away and it was touching to hear the testimony of the member. That investigator came to church on Sunday as well.

The next day we went on exchanges with another group of elders. I went with an Elder Turner who only has a week and a half left on the mission so he was a great example to me of a diligent and hardworking, obedient missionary. Super fun and we found some new people.

Just wanted to give my mission president, President Clayton, a shout out. He will be leaving in the next couple days and I just wanted to express how grateful I am for him and all that he has done for me. He is definitely a Christ like man and I know that he truly is called to be a general authority. He is like a second father to me whom I will dearly miss.

One scripture I just wanted to share that I found this week is 2 Nephi 1:15 Which reads "But behold, the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell; I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love." I just really enjoyed that and that I would share.

God Bless and have a great week!

Week #43

Whoa 43 weeks. Dang. That's a fair time ha-ha.

I hope you all had a great week. This week was decent.

On Monday after a classic meal at mama Doerings we went to Cannington. A smaller place nearby in which we were going to see a former investigator who was a kinda retired minister. We had not set anything up, but we buzzed his door he came from up some stairs and we asked him " are you..... ......" and then we said some other stuff to which he looks at us and just waves us up. Unfortunately though, he wasn't interested in changing.

On Tuesday we met with a newer investigator who was pretty cool. He was ok with what we taught and believed a lot of the same stuff we believe. Of course there was some other interesting stuff he wanted to talk about but it was all good and the message was pretty well received.

On Wednesday we were invited to a seminary breakfast which was great. It was super fun and we got to have seminary. On Thursday we were visiting some members out of town and on the way back decided to try a small town. Three houses in and we found 2 people who listened to the whole first message and were going to let us come again. She had even received a book of Mormon from missionaries before so we are looking forward to meeting with them again.

Saturday was a crazy day. We were tracting in the late afternoon and we knocked on the door of this one house. The man who came to the door was not very happy. He started using profanity and slammed the door so we left and laughed. 30 minutes later a van pulls up and its the man whose door we knocked at. He starts screaming more profanity at us saying we ruined his evening while he was having a glass of wine (figures) and then he says he is going to ruin our evening by following us around while we tract and scream profanity at us every time we do a house so we start walking away and he keeps following us and we tell him we are sorry but its not good enough for him and its not till we walk onto a main street that he leaves us. haha crazy stuff.

On Sunday I gave a talk and with it being fathers day I talked about fathers. It went well. The greatest father is of course our Heavenly Father, but I just wanted to give a shout out to my dad. He truly is a great man whom I love and respect dearly. Love you Padre.

Thats pretty much it this week. Hope you all have a great week!

Week #42

This week was another one in the books. We went out worked hard. Went contacting, tracting, tried visiting members, but unfortunately sometimes when you do all you can as a missionary, you still might not see the success you worked for or hoped for. That in a gist is kind of how the week went but there's more as well.

On Monday we went out to Momma Doerings for supper. While in the washroom my companion told them that I could rap and now she really wants to hear me rap ha-ha. Later we went to a man's house who we met last week. He is a newer Baptist minister who we talked to for a bit. The guy was very nice and there was just something's we wouldn't listen to or seek if they were true and he had many questions. At the end I just handed him a Plan of Salvation pamphlet and invited him to read because it answers and makes sense the purpose of life and its doctrines. Then at the end I asked the man if there was anything that we could do for him and his family and he just seemed kinda surprised and humbled at what I had asked and the Spirit was felt.

On Wednesday we went out to a place called Janetvile and worked the area there. Its very small but we found a man who accepted a book of Mormon and I felt like this guy would actually read it so that was great. On Friday we had district meeting in which we talked about repentance and how that as missionaries that was part of our purpose. Preaching repentance. Its meaning is different then what most people think. As I've been on a mission I have learnt that repentance is change. Its not merely confessing a sin and not doing it again. It is changing our nature. The way we think, act, and what we saw and see. It gives us extra strength as well as we do repent. I remember that before the mission, I thought repentance was a bad word and at the beginning of my mission if I was told to repent, I would have been offended. Not anymore. Its really just about changing and being refined by the Saviors Atonement to be the person we were meant to be and to be the best we can. That's one of the things on my mission that I've been able to see that I might have never seen had I not come out and for that I'm grateful. An eternal principle is that anyone can change.

On Sunday we had church and our new convert Marie was able to get her temple recommend and will hopefully go to the temple for proxy baptisms this week. Well that's about it for this week. Hope You all have a great week!

Week #41

Hey Bloggers, This is Elder Toly ready to tell you about another week here in Lindsay!

On Monday after P-day, We went to mama Doerings' for supper which was quite excellent and decided to work around a place near them called Cannington and ran into a Baptist Minister. We talked and then set a follow up appointment for next week even though we are pretty sure he just wants to bash ha-ha. On Wednesday, we met with a very nice older lady who we have met with a couple times, but decided to turn her over to the Lord (Stop teaching her). We then went out and did some things with our branch mission leader including visiting someone in the hospital (here's the pic)

On Thursday we helped some members move which went pretty well.

On Friday we had a zone council meeting which went well. The topics were baptismal invites, unity, daily contact, and then I had to do an introduction on the transition to a new mission president because as you might know, our mission President is going to leave at the end of this month and a new one will be coming in. After the meeting we went on exchanges with another set of Elders and I got a brand new missionary. It was pretty fun going around with him just seeing how everything was pretty new to him and that he was just so excited that it pumped me up as well. I guess this really proves that attitude can make a difference.

On Sunday we met with an investigator out in a park under a gazebo. It went pretty well but it got really dark and then started to down pour sooo much it was crazy we had to run to the car which was parked a couple streets over and by the time we got to the car we were soaking wet ha ha memories!

Also I have included a picture of the Dairy Barn which is home to the best Ice Cream in the world!

Lots of love.
