Week #79

Week 79: Alright so Plot Twist: This Monday we didn't have our p-day because we had family day. It was actually pretty dead in terms of YSA ( Young Single Adults) cause they were on break this week and were probably hiding in their houses so the sun wouldn't turn them to dust. We taught our prayer investigator and read the scriptures and shared about likening them to ourselves. He seems to enjoy some of the book of Mormon cause heshowed us that he sometimes posts a scripture from it on Face book. (what is Face book?)

The next day instead we had our p-day and did all the normal things. I just had to let you know so the change wouldn't alarm you. After though in the evening went on exchanges with some elders and I got to go on exchanges with my old companion... Elder Taylor! It was good cause the next day we had district meeting in.... Lindsay! I had been there last transfer on exchanges but he hadn't since he left last April so he was tripping out pretty hard. After district meeting we dropped by a couple people and got lunch at a classic place in town. It was a good exchange and got to have a lot of fun. Got a picture in front of the famous bush. So last year the transfer before I came to Lindsay he had crashed into a bush in the parking lot and so naturally we had to get a picture of it again. Good times!

Thursday we met with an investigator who is a dancer. He competes in competitions with his dance team and it sounds pretty intense. We shared about prayer and how we're more likely to recognize answers by doing things like reading the scriptures or service or partaking of the sacrament. We then went on exchanges again and I took a young blood (newer missionary) to the shwa. We dropped by a guy we had talked to, he was Sikh (not sick) and we didn't get him but got his roommates and so we got in and started teaching them the Restoration. There were three but a couple had to go and we ended up teaching just one of them cause our other friend wasn't home. It went well and we explained the book of Mormon and its importance and he said "how much for the book?" (later on I realized I could've said 10 bucks) and we told him free.

The next day learned about listening and then for Friday and Saturday we had some more boring things we had to do although we did see a couple people and got to see one of the sisters investigators get baptized.

Sunday was pretty fun because the Oshawa ward put on a musical fireside which went really well and oneof our new converts bore his testimony! It was great! (and there was food after and that's always a bonus) Also I turned 20 which was pretty alarming!!. Anyways thanks so much to everyone for your love and
support! Hope you have a great week! The gospels true!

Week #78 A Date?

Week 78: Well, this was an interesting week as it was the week I went on my second ever date. Stay tuned though as I let you know about it a sec.

Last Monday we had our norm p-day and one of our members came to play sports with us. After we were planning to drop by a referral so we asked him to come with us. We call the person who gave us the referral and they say to come by in like an hour. So there we are with an hour and a member and he looks at us in the car and ask if we have a dinner appointment and we say no, and then he repeats the question again and we're like yes? And he took us out and then we went to the home of the person being referred and the member we brought just happened to know her so that was pretty cool. After
we had FHE which was fun.

The next day was pretty good we taught a couple investigators including our Muslim friend and found another person to teach. Now this is where the date comes in... It was last week and we were talking to some people beside the university and we met two girls and we shared a message with them and asked if there would be a time that we could meet up and they said yeah and we exchanged numbers and set a time to meet next.
Tuesday which turned out to be valentines and we met at a coffee shop and shared the restoration with them. It went pretty well and we didn't actually buy them anything so I guess it wouldn't count by anyways that was fun.
Wednesday we had district meeting which we learned about having better contacts and sharing the message with others and we taught a couple people, including our prayer investigator.

Thursday was a blur and I can't really remember that much haha.

Friday we had a meeting in which accountability was discussed and met with our new convert who we have been struggling to help him consistently read the book of Mormon. We talked about it and he came up with the solution himself to listen to the soundtrack of it and now is doing well with his reading.

Saturday had an appointment at a coffee shop (why a coffee shop you ask? because its right by the university and student housing and a lot of YSA don't really like meeting at their homes.) but it fell through so we started to do companion study in a coffee shop, yes i know, Mormons and coffee is bad. And then the other guy we had scheduled for in 30 minutes at..... the same coffee shop haha showed up and we taught him and it went really well. While we were teaching him he was reading the pamphlet and read the whole thing while we were with him. He couldn't meet up during reading week though cause
he was going to Toronto and said after that he would meet with us and by then he will have read the whole thing and we're just like... man that's a long book, really? It was good though and his background is from Nigeria which made it better and he's quite the hipster. We also saw another investigator as well. We also went to the soup kitchen which was pretty fun.
Sunday we met for church in the Ajax chapel and met the trainee of a missionary from Lethbridge. Monday, yesterday. was family day so there was like no one out but we still taught a couple people. Anyways that's our week!
Hope you all have a great week and that the weather is hot like it is here.
Remember CTR, be real and remember who you are. Elder Toly signing out!

Week #77 God's good and the church is true!

Well, well, I knew you'd be crawling back to creep my life again. I'm just kidding cause there's probably like 2 people that read this blog but that's all good cause you'll get to have all the fun.

This week was pretty grand. We had our first p day with the changes cause now we get an extra 2 hours (*Nacho Libre voice* "It's the best!") So no complaints about that! This week was interesting too because it was midterms so it was harder for us to meet with people, but nevertheless there were just a ton of miracles! Lets continue though eh? So that night we got a text from someone requesting a bible and we went by and shared that with him and set a time to meet which was fun.

The next day We met with our Muslim friend and had a good meeting about finding answers to prayers and we read about faith from the book of Mormon. We then drove out to Newtonville (aka the middle of nowhere) to help a family with some service and it was freezing rain. We got there and ended up working outside which was fun cause the rain died down and they live in the country so it was nice just to get some fresh air. It was fun too cause our car had a nice 2 inch layer of ice on it and I just for some reason love breaking that off, its like therapy, but enough of my psychotic tendencies. We then had dinner with a family from the Oshawa ward. The couple actually met while they were on their missions and they went to the same mission, but we got to hear the whole story. If you're wondering....nope not gonna happen to me. We also got to go see our prodigal son and he's been doing alright. That night we had 3 sets of missionaries come stay the night cause we had a zone conference at our chapel the next day.

Wednesday: We had our zone conference and we were instructed on teaching more simply. It was like so, so simple or something. It was really good though and can get better at that. Later that night we had our branch missionary coordination which is always super fun and someone brought snacks, So bonus!

Thursday we went to go see our new convert and taught the plan of salvation and someone started talking about her prom date and it was just hilarious. We then had dinner with a member family called the Lynches. Their kids are probably smarter than me, After that we dropped by an investigator who had really had a really tough week and hadn't really been responding. We surprised him and taught about receiving answer a little at a time and then talked about prayed and reading the scriptures. His boss hadn't called him for work and hence the discouragement. At the end of the lesson he prayed (side-note: his prayers get longer every-time he prays) and after we left he text us saying "Guess what? My boss just messaged me today, asking if I'd like to work tomorrow ... Do prayers really work that fast? Or is it just a coincidence every time I ask God for help, I get it." Super awesome though, and I'll talk about it in a sec more...

The next morning (Friday) We went with our new convert and got his temple recommend. Later we met with our prayer investigator and he had ordered a pizza for us to eat him and it was cool cause his countenance changed and he was a lot more caring about the message and more concerned about us and how we do what we do and when we left he really made sure that we would travel safe. Cool stuff.

The next day we went to Brampton with Nik our new convert and Wyatt who drove us and it was fun. We went to the distribution center and did family history (he did 3 of his own names) and visited the visitors center. Afterwards we got burgers which were good too.

Sunday we had a branch conference even though the weather was pretty crazy. That's the week though and also we prayed for a referral on Sunday and got one which was nice.
Gods good and the church is true.
Take it easy (not too easy though) and have a great week!

Week #76

Week 76:

Another week of fun has come and gone. This week was pretty good and saw some cool blessing and things.

Monday night we had our usual schedule and then had Elder Jacksons last FHE which was pretty good.

Tuesday we then had transfers where we drove down to Brampton. One sad thing is one of my companions Elder Ngerantar finally finished his mission. It was crazy thinking I served with this guy a year ago. He was such a great example of charity and I hope things go well for him in Malaysia. I then got my new companions Elder McBride. He's a 2015 grad and he's from.... Utah! His trainer was actually my first zone leader when I came into the mission. We were able to have dinner with an awesome family called the Burnfields who are pretty funny.

The next day on Wednesday we met with our branch president out in Bowmanville and then saw one of our new converts. Later we had a lesson with an investigator and taught the plan of salvation and that as pretty good. She had some great questions from the reading she had done in the book of Mormon. Later we met with another investigator and taught the gospel of Jesus Christ and committed him to baptism for March 11 and he accepted. Still has some learning and work to do but we're excited. After we went on our way back to Brampton for a meeting. We stopped at Tim Hortons and got 50 timbits for the drive and got to take the 407 which is this special highway that you need a pass for and its sweet cause there's almost no traffic. I wish I had one of those for every road! We then got there. As you might remember at the last couple meetings there was some super fun stuff that went on like eating hot peppers and fish. This time was different. They gave out a book of Mormon and we all wrote our testimonies in them and had a testimony meeting. And after you bore you testimony you put your book in the middle of the room and then at the end you went and took a different one with another elders testimony in it. It was a pretty amazing thing to see all these guys around 19 or 20 do something like that and really just say what they know is true. Another testimony builder. Not something you see every day. The next day we had the meeting and it was really good they reviewed the missionary broadcast that they had worldwide and we talked about the changes in the schedule and the key indicators. It was really good. We also talked about the other things they talked about. There was a question that was phrase that I really like it was "Would, if you took of your name tag and your suit and just wear regular clothes would people see something different in you?" It really asked if you have the countenance of Jesus Christ in you. Super awesome stuff and another elder shared that we are our greatest testimonies.

Friday we met with our new convert and prepped him for the temple on the 11th. We then contacted near a university campus and sadly no one was out so it was hard for contacting and we were gonna go work another area and I felt like we needed to turn up a street even though there was like no one there so we did so and ran into a girl and told her about the book of Mormon and she asked where she could get one so we outta the kindness of our hearts gave her one and set a time to meet where she is gonna bring her friend. Cool things!

Saturday had zone council which was good. We then were taken out to this southern BBQ place by one of members James. It was super good! We then went and met with our Muslim friend. We had a really great lesson just recently with him and he said that since he's been meeting with us and coming to church his life had drastically improved. We really shared about the Atonement and how Christ helps us make it over trials. It was good. We then had a service activity at the church where we cleaned the chapel and then had a challenge of eating spaghetti with proper utensils and of course I went for the hardest one and picked a whisk. to be honest I actually got pretty good at it. It was cool cause one of our investigators came and also went to church the next day too.

That Sunday we also found a couple new people to teach which was great.

Have a stellar week everyone and remember that you are your greatest testimony!
